About Tarangire National Park

Tarangire National Park is Tanzania's hidden gem — an underrated wilderness that rewards visitors with massive elephant herds, ancient baobab trees, and far fewer crowds than the Serengeti or Ngorongoro. During the dry season (June to October), the Tarangire River becomes the last water source for miles, drawing enormous concentrations of wildlife. Elephant herds numbering up to 300 individuals gather along its banks — some of the largest gatherings anywhere in East Africa. The park is also home to tree-climbing pythons, a unique behavioral quirk that fascinates visitors. The landscape is defined by giant baobab trees, some over a thousand years old, whose twisted silhouettes create a photographer's paradise. Tarangire is an essential stop on Tanzania's northern safari circuit.
