Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is the ultimate primate destination — a mist-shrouded, ancient rainforest in southwestern Uganda that is home to roughly half of the world's remaining Mountain Gorillas. Trekking through the dense undergrowth to sit just meters from a silverback gorilla family is, for many, the single most powerful wildlife encounter on Earth. The forest itself is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, one of the most biologically diverse areas in Africa, with over 120 mammal species, 350 bird species, and countless butterflies and plants. Beyond gorillas, Bwindi offers tracking of habituated Golden Monkey groups and guided forest walks. Gorilla permits are limited and must be booked well in advance. The experience is typically combined with visits to Queen Elizabeth National Park or a crossing into Rwanda for the Volcanoes National Park.
